3 Tips to Overcome Meal-Giving Insecurity
Many of us have experienced feelings of insecurity when it comes to preparing and taking a meal at some point in our lives. It is our desire to bless our recipient with a delicious meal that warms their hearts and fills their bellies. It is not uncommon, however, to allow doubts and questions like, "Did the recipient enjoy the meal I prepared for them? If there were children, did they like the meal? Were there enough servings for seconds for teenagers? Did I accidentally omit any ingredients?" to discourage us. I want to encourage you, as a blessed meal recipient on many occasions, the meal you have chosen will be a tremendous source of encouragement, no matter how you may feel about it on your end!
Here are three simple reminders to help you feel confident when taking your next meal:
  • Take a recipe you know well and love yourself! This one is my favorite: Crockpot Honey Sesame Chicken served with a side of green beans.
  • Along the lines of taking a recipe you know well and love, make things easy by dedicating your favorite recipe as the one you make whenever you take a meal (while still keeping any food sensitivities or allergies in mind). I love this post for more ideas on what to take if you're struggling with deciding.
  • Set realistic expectations. Don't go above and beyond with your meal, trying to make it perfect. Sign up for a day you know will work with your schedule, and if you are unable to commit, find another way to offer friendly support to your loved one! There is no shame in either of these options. I found this article extremely helpful on how to move beyond being overly critical of myself.
We all aim to bring joy to those enjoying our meals, but it's also important to appreciate the beauty of simplicity and to avoid being overly critical of ourselves. I hope that by sharing these three simple tips for meal delivery, you will feel more confident the next time you prepare a meal for a loved one. Would you like to send a note of encouragement to someone you know who could use a pick-me-up? I've designed these notecards for just that!
