They are waiting. Who you ask? The birds are waiting for you to give them some bird seed for the winter. The seeds from the spring and summer are gone and the birds are looking for food for the winter.

A radio station in Texas always does a Christmas wish each year around the holidays. The radio station would set up at a local restaurant with dozens of three ringer binders with stories of peoples' lives and their needs. One year I felt like I should go and look through the books.

It was two days before Christmas and we had all of our gifts purchased. I went into the restaurant and began looking through the notebooks. It was overwhelming to read the different stories of what was going on in peoples lives and what their needs were instead of their wants. Some of stories were so intense I had to just move on to the next one.

The story that touched my heart was a youth minister, his wife and their new baby. The minister said they had what they needed but there just wouldn't be anything under the tree that year. It had been a tough year because their new baby girl was born and she had many medical problems and money was tight. He said he would just like a gift for his wife because he loved her so much. My heart began pounding and I said this is the one. I was so excited.

I ran to the car and let my husband read it and he got so excited. We went shopping for the family that day. We ended up buying them several things and meeting them at a restaurant near their home. It was such a neat and heartwarming experience.

It was a meaningful Christmas meeting someone you didn't know but blessing them and making a connection with them during the special time of year.

A year later I received the following email from the family:

"We wanted to say that the Lord has brought us so many blessings this year and I remember when we were telling ya'll how much we appreciated what ya'll had done for us and Erik said that he hoped one day we would be able to pay it forward and bless someone else, and we were able to do that this year, and we wanted to let you guys know that the seed you planted in us, was able to bless someone else."

Seeds have many uses. They are used to nourish animals and people. They are used for growing beautiful flowers and trees.

It doesn't take a lot to feed birds. It doesn't take a lot to encourage others. You will be surprised what a little act of kindness will do. Usually the person you plant the seed in wants to disperse the seed to someone else.
